Hi everybody,

I'm soory if this question was already posted but the "search" function is not open.

I would like to know how much cost (approximatively) an engine rebuild with a good uprade for the 4L rover ?
with a TVR specialist (like R**ing Gr**n for example).

around real 280hp and more 300 ft.lbs torque between 2000rpm and 5000rpm. is it realist ?

could you list me the most important upgrade parts ?

and could you say me if the 4L HC engine is better for upgrades because has already double valve springs, pocked pistons, High spec cam ... ?

thank you,
regards,
Simon.

Rob Robertson from V8 Developments is the man to do this for you.

Here is a post that will help answer your questions.

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I would say an absolute maximum of 270hp is a more realistic target figure than 280hp.

The HC is arguably a better starting point, but the reality is if you are looking for 260 - 270hp then quite a bit will need changing.

So cost wiise my guess is it will probably make very little difference if you start with a standard 4.0 litre or an HC, but I would talk to Rob about this to see what he says.

You could add improved induction and exhaust parts in a staged way to lessen the financial impact but there is only so far you can go like this.

For instance fresh heads on a bottom end thats anything other than 100% is likely to end in tears.

The staged approach has been my method and I have seen some good gains, but at the end of the day if you really want to do the job properly you invariably end up with an engine rebuild.

The thing is you may then see the extra cost of stroking the engine for greater capacity money well spent, or perhaps finding a good used 4.5 or 5.0 litre & having it refreshed by Rob better value still.

It's all down to what you want, how much money you want to spend & how quickly you want it.

The real answer to all this is talk to an expert, & after watching Rob fit a cam to my Chim I would have no hesitation in recommending him.

300lbs/ft may be a little difficult to achieve NA...
(not to say impossible, but muchos deniro would have to be spent)

I drove mine today (it's been a week...shocker!!) - it is a standard 400 - and it is still bloody fast....

Awesome in 'vanilla', these cars really are....

The only mods I have considered are:-

Smooth elbow induction pipe (cheep!)

Exhaust changes (for pure noise) - perhaps sleeving, or decatting the manifold and Y piece....

But I must be honest (and this is just my opinion), the car is bloody quick enuff already!

Nosh.

I Agree my old 400 was putting out 225bhp and was awesome On to a Cerbera now with 350bhp 300 ft/lb and the chim still feels quick too around 100mph
