A standard Range Rover ECU wouldnt be any use as it would not be chipped for the Chimera, it may also be coded and this would cause problems. You might get one from Bellhill Breakers www.bellhillgarage.com as they have TVR bits. What is the problem with yours , it might be better to get it repaired, try hte ECU DOctor in Plympton Devon www.the-ecu-doctor.co.uk/ the following quote is from their site:-
"The ECU Doctor specializes in customer 'own unit' rebuild and re-engineering of automotive engine control units. This means you get your own ECU back.

When exchanging, you have NO IDEA what you are getting back. Worse still, the ECU you get back could have unusual intermittent faults that no one has been able to detect or repair. Dealer re-programming costs and inconvenience are avoided if your own ECU is re-fitted. It is also becoming more common that other types of exchange ECU are not working because of vehicle coding problems (the ECU is coded to work only with your vehicle) - this possibility is avoided if your own ECU is re-fitted"

There is nothing special about the TVR ECU, its just a bog standard Range Rover / Land Rover 14CUX unit with a TVR chip in it (plug-able from the old ECU) Should be somewhere between £30 -100 from a Range Rover breaker. Dont even think about paying "TVR" prices. Any 14CUX will do, its just various differences in the cases that change the part number, and its not coded at all (unlike the later Lucas Sagem systems fitted to the Range Rovers). Just avoid pre 1992/ 3 units as the fuel chip is not plug-able, and some circuit changes on even earlier units mean the TVR chips will not work. Im afraid I dont know exactly when the chips became pluggable, but my 1992 unit had the chip soldered in.

Cheers guys all very helpful stuff and yes Blitz is very helpful I'll still be outside checking for wiring faults if he hadn't replied to my other post. I've seen a couple of ecu's on fleebay that are in the right age range so I'll grab one and take things from there.

No doubt i'll be back in a few days moaning about people sellng knackered ecu's on fleebay smile
