Trade in price
Discussion
depends on the engine size, condition, colour and number former keepers
500 i'm guessing £6k.
450 £5k
400 £4k
You would have done/might do better late feb/early march
No they likely won't want it, hence the harsh figures, this close to winter and the prices quoted reflect the risk to them of their money tied up in it, the fact they can't use that money to buy stock they DO want, plus the work for them of finding someone (even in the trade) to take it off their hands.
You'd be better off selling it outright to one of the indies - start with Fernies/RG/Str8t six (if they have the highest asking prices they might pay the highest offer) and work through from there. Then go back for your van with readies.
Of course, you'd get a better price selling to a private buyer, which takes time and I assume you need the van in a hurry.

Most dealers would want to underwrite the trade in price, so they will ring up one or more Specialists (local to where they are) and get an over the phone price. This will be the 'best' that they then offer in trade in - expect it to be low!
If you ring up a couple of the specialists then you will get an over the phone price as well, which will give you a guide.
The price that you will be offered will very much depend on the specialists stock level, if he already has a couple of 400s in then he may not be very interested, especially as at this time of the year he may have the car for a few months.
Probably your best bet is to gauge a market price (private sale) from the PH classifieds, get the the over the phone price from the specialist, then put it on PH in-between (perhaps half way) to get a quick sale. Priced right it should sell very quickly, especially if the buyer thinks he's getting a winter bargain.

Jammy wow 4k !!!!!
its a 4000 and i am the 3rd owner
this is how I see it - that car will probably end up at £7995 somewhere.its a 4000 and i am the 3rd owner
The guy asking £7995 needs to allow for someone negotiating him to £7000. He also has to pay VAT on the difference between his buying and selling price, cover the statutory 3 month minimum warranty, do a few odd jobs (they all need something) and make sufficient gross profit to cover a contribution to all the expenses of running a business (forecourt/showroom, phone, advertising, staff, insurance etc), which might bring the true sale value to him back to less than £6k. Meanwhile, the guy you p/ex it with will try and make a profit on the price he gives you, so the margin is much narrower than it looks.
I think you'll really struggle at this time of year especially and with market the way it is, but be delighted for you to prove me wrong.
If you were doing this in late Feb, they'd be more inclined to take a punt with Spring around the corner, but as it stands all they will be able to see is their money tied up for the next 6 months
