Due to a loss of noise and power, I've just checked if the pre cats are intact. Guess what, they have both gone

Took the Y piece out to check for any debris and got a little bit of grey dust and a small lump of pre cat.

I've chopped off the top Y piece section to find that the element is pretty much blocked solid. Having failed to clear much crap out by banging the can I have cut 15mm off the top of the CAT in the hope of getting rid of most of the blockage. I'll weld it all back together tomorrow and see if it works and indeed passes a gas test.

If my efforts have been in vain could anybody recommend a good place to get a new Y piece c/w cat from

Cheers

Dave

Have a chat with Tim at ACT, I'm sure he can get your cat re-catted, so to speak . I'm pretty sure there is a free flowing one as well which AFAIK is better than the OEM.

Pretty sure Tim would use JP anyway. Strangely enough he can usually get you a JP system cheaper than JP will sell it to you direct, go figure .
Worth forgetting replacing the pre-cats and getting conical inserts along with a free flow sports main cat. Not only better flowing but will sound nicer than the OEM too, apparently .

It's not uncommon for a manufacturer to have a retail price and a distributor price. The distributor can then undercut the manufacturer price by taking a smaller margin. This means the manufacturer can get on with manufacture and the distributor with sales and marketing.

Job done and sorted

The car now sounds and drives like a 450 chim

I cannot believe the difference.

Even though both pre cats have gone, the main cat has been generally abused during de-clogging, and had 15 to 20mm cut off it with a bloody hacksaw, it still passed an emmissions test

The smile is well and truley back on my chops :

Thanks to everybody especially 2 sheds for help and advice.

Best Regards

Dave
