Hi all - a very (very) quick one: my alternator is failing. Anyone have one lying around/suggest a decent place to refurb?

A quick look on 'the Chimaera pages' will give you a Magnetti Marelli or Bosch part number.

Google the part number and I'm sure you'll have a good choice.
I got one from my local motor factors - about £120 refurb'd/exchange, a couple of years ago mind.

Just a thought, but when I changed mine, it turned out that in fact the alternator was fine - it was the 100 amp fuse that had gone. Usual story, when I opened fuse holder, it looked fine, but when I undid the (8mm ?) nuts holding the strip in place it just fell apart. My symptoms were a slight glow from the charge light. Worth checking as it's only a couple of quid to replace.

I found that it cost about the same to buy one new as it did to get one refurbed... I did then have the alternator on the car for the shortest time ever as i jump started my car and it killed the diodes! so i had to buy another one!!
