Yes I've heard abut the Griff one - but have not heard of any done to any Chims
Being a 'Griff guy' you will only have seen Chimaeras from the rear
, but I would suggest that just about anything that can be done to a Griffith can be done to a Chimaera and visa versa. They do after all share a virtually identical chassis, and minor production year/model variations aside, identical engine and gearbox etc.
While it would be ideal to track down someone who has done it, I feel certain that there will be someone here who can advise, or someone who knows of a builder that could manage it.
I don't doubt there will be plenty of issues, but probably not too many more than performing the same alteration to say a Range Rover.
Try getting in touch with the Griff owner, he sounds like a great place to start and could probably recommend a builder.
Sounds a very worthy project, and I wish you/him luck with it.

Asking on Behalf of a disabled friend .... Any one know of any automatic Chims? Anybody done any conversions or have any ever come to light for sale in the past? Would it be easy to convert any main problems to be aware of?
Cheers

Hi Paul, if my memory serves me right I gave your friend a test drive/demo in my car whilst at a Neil Garner Open Day. If he's looking to put an automatic box into a Chimaera I seem to remember there are several threads on that subject on PH, it has definitely been done on various Wedges. Cheers

My Griffith, however, has the standard gearbox but with a Fadiel/OC Mobility hand-controlled clutch system as used by Alex Zanardi. These systems are/were expensive (£3K +) but have now been more or less superseded by flappy paddle options from the main car manufacturers. Also when considering this type of 'specialist' car and any conversion you should assume there will no financial assistance from Motability, etc.
PM me if you want more info.

Thanks Dave,
Only this lunchtime I was talking to the my friend in question and he reminded me that he meet you and the Griff at Neil's Open Day. I will forward his email details to you. I'm sure any further info will be of use to him.
Cheers
Paul
