WMS Brake Upgrade (Anyone Fitted It?)
Discussion
Hi folks,
Looking to upgrade the front brakes on my Chim,
I know many are happy with their Granada Cosworth calliper mod, but the way I see it if I'm going to do it I may as well get a brand new lightweight four pot set up rather than the old heavy sliding piston type callipers.
The problem is it all gets a bit pricey, most 300mm kits seem to weigh in at the £1000 mark which I simply can't justify.
After a bit of research on here I have found the WMS offering hard to beat, I'm currently looking at Keri's 283x24 Chimaera 4-pot kit, it does seem like a great value for money.
But has anyone fitted it?
I would be grateful if anyone who has this kit could give me their honest impressions of it?
I am also talking with Keri about going up to a 300mm disc size as I have 16" Imolas on the front, apparently going to 300mm may not add that much to the overall cost of the kit.
Am I likely to notice much difference between a 283mm disc set up & a 300mm one?
Thanks in advance, Dave.

Dave
Theres an old thread here discussing these,
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
I stumbled across this when I was having trouble identifying my 281mm discs, which were turned from a 283mm set , but thats another story.
Hope this helps.

Hi Guys, I'd better just point out that the photos show the T30 caliper, not the T20 in the current kit.
I can't put any info up without annoying the mods, but the T20 can be seen in the existing photo of the spinning 15" Imola on page 2 of the link above.
Sorry Keri, I can change the photos to the correct ones, put them in my inbox if you like.I can't put any info up without annoying the mods, but the T20 can be seen in the existing photo of the spinning 15" Imola on page 2 of the link above.
It's just me getting over excited about my new brakes, apologies.
How I want to see those 300mm discs & T20 callipers behind my 16" Imolas.
Sad or what?

interested in this kit myself, I was also weighing up this one also:

Something else to consider is the cost of the pads as these can sometimes be stupidly expensive or a poor choice of pads. I couldn't see anything when I was looking as to what pads the WMS ones use?

Hi,
I went with this kit from Rally Design. It fits behind the std 15" wheel.
http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/product_info.php?prod...
You can see pics of it compared to standard here:

Having had wilwoods before, I didn't want to use their 'smart' pads, so got Hawk fast road/trackday pads from these guys:
http://www.cambridgemotorsport.com/Brakes
I also changed to braided hoses at the same time, got them from Racing Green.
You'll also want to use decent fluid, my recommendation is this stuff:
http://www.k300performance.co.uk/brakes/brake-flui...
it comes in amber too, so when you're flushing the fluid, you can tell when the old fluid is gone:

I'm really pleased with my set up.
Thanks,
Ben

I know it's a small point, but it's worth pointing out as it's not obvious that the RD bells have thicker flanges (12.5mm) where they are clamped by the wheels than the Ford/TVR discs do (8.5mm).
So in effect they add sneaky 4.0mm wheel spacers - and like any other wheel spacer you get more room behind the wheel but you're shifting the offset, may lose wheel centering/location and may need 4/5mm longer wheel studs to retain safe thread engagement.
In answer to the other two questions:
- The WMS T20 takes the same pads as the Dynalite, a very common shape (£35-ish from EBC in Red/Yellow compared to £76 & £91 for Red/Yel to fit the Brembos on eBay)
- Not sure about the Estoril wheel, but you can check using this: http://www.keri.co.uk/wms/4P010-Chim-283mm-T20-rot... - or do you mean our proposed new 300mm kit?

With any luck I will get a chance to do the measure up on my 16" Imola front wheels this weekend.Edited by Keri on Friday 28th October 13:08

Do these use a standard Cosworth disc?
Yes, the 283mm one does anyway.Chimpafrolic said:
