Hi there,
Can anyone recommend a thread type for restitching the roof fabric together. I did some repairs last November where the inner and outer parts of the hood around the rear window had parted company but the thread has completely disintergrated.

I used mercerised cotton button-hole thread, which seemed really tough.

Not sure if it's the weather or UV that has caused it to fail.
I have read that polyester UV-stabilised upholstery thread is available.

Anyone know what the original stuff is or something that lasts ?

Hi,

try a local chandler (if you have one!!)or fleabay they stock loads of sail repair thread that is designed to stand up to worse conditions than your chimeara should get. Most of it is waxed cotton but there are some synthetic ones as well

I used waxed thread on mine which is still going strong after about 4 years. I got it from HobbyCraft I think.
