Car will be coming off the road in the next week or so for some substantial winter work.
Is there a thread or account of differential removal for the Chim?

search function did not help.

Ok thanks car high up on stands in garage and first drive shaft off, and that just may be the clonk and not the diff after all. Driveshaft has a about 5-6 mm free play and an audible noise. Is that a shagged driveshaft ?

If they are worn and I think they are, where shall I send them to get rebuilt ?

suggestions please

Thank you

When you say the driveshaft has play. Do you mean it can be turned slightly in the cv joint. There is not much to go wrong with the driveshaft. I would take the cv joints off and inspect them as they can wear. New ones are readily available.

Ordered my new Cv's and with driveshafts out.
Is it as simple as remove the outer circlip and ''slip'' off the cv ?

Thanks

In theory yes. From what i can gather they should slide on and off maybe with a little persuation and i think many do. When i replaced mine i only managed to move 1 out of the 4 and that took some serious clattering. The other 3 i couldnt budge and had to take them to a local garage and get them to press them off. They even commented that even with the press they took some budging.

I decided on new driveshafts with my new cv`s, and these were great they just slid on with a slight tap.

Hope yours aren`t as tight as mine were.

Ok, all four off. All needed a light to moderate tap. One needed quite a bit of helping but all off. I am totally covered in grease!
