Hi all,
The near side hinge of my bonnet is loose and so allowing the bonnet to 'wobble' when I drive.
Need to fix it quick as, apart from not wanting it to fly off on the motorway, its rubbing on the inside of the wing.

Can someone advise me how the bonnet hinge is secured into the bonnet ? Had a look but couldnt see.
Is there a bush missing maybe ?

I renewed my hinge assembly recently for the Steve Heath ones.

IIRC the bonnet side of the original hinges is just a piece o threaded stud set into the fibreglass.
There is then a rose joint spaced out at the correct centres on each side.

If it is the bonnet side that is loose, I suggest removal of the bonnet, 2 alan bolts on each side and investigate the mount.

Steve Heath hinge but the captive stud is clear,

You've had a lot of problems losing your bonnets?

Looks like a tow loop for the Queen Mary. biggrin

Very sensible.

Some reconsideration of original vs upgrade required on my part perhaps...

Just undo the center alan bolt and pull the bonnet forward, APOP.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the feedback.
Yes, its definitely on the bonnet side. The stud seems to be floating in a bigger whole. (oh err did I just write that).Cheers,
Tony.

It's not a stud (or it wasn't in my case) it's a captive nut glassed into the bonnet. These break loose and can wear into a much bigger hole.

I had to cut a round hole into the bulge alongside it to glass it back on from behind. I held it in place with a bolt through bit of alloy cut to shape and pop rivetted on.

Afterwards I bunged up the access hole with a grommet and painted the whole lot black. Doesn't show at all now.

i got a quote £400 to re glass the area..

I removed the bonnet ,cut a piece of sheet steel ,removed the nut and drilled the plate .self tapped and glued the small trianglular plate against the in side part of the bonnet and then re screwed the lock nut against the steel plate and all is very solid.
