another speedo query!

Both speedo and odo have stopped! Ocassionally flicking the speedo will make it work, suggesting its not the sensor! Will a dead sensor cause both to stop or have I got to take the top of my dash!?

I believe the Sensor feeds both the ODo and the speedometer so could be a faulty connection at either end of the the sensor gap to the toothed wheel has been disturbed and the sensor isnt picking it up??

I am waiting for a new sensor myself at the moment as mine is ok upto 130 then suddenly shoots down to 120 and then picks up again.

Offords told me many a speedo fault is a usually the sensor rather than the actuall speedo,But then they do go funny aswell as seen on PH threads in the past.

I think you are right BB, I had the air gap reset because for the first five minutes of each day the spedo didn't kick in, Peninsula rest and cleaned it and it was a lot better after that.

My speedo also refuses to work for the first 15 mins of each journey till the diff warms up, does anyone know what distance the sensor should be from the toothed wheel?

I needed one for the Chim, being an early model I had trouble finding one but I tried David Gerald and they had them in stock. It may be worth trying them if you are in a hurry.

I just had my speedo fixed by ETB instruments, found their sticker on the back of it when I had the dash out, decided to give them a try as my digital odometer lost the mileage whenever I turned the ignition off. They fixed the problem and posted it back all for £15.75.
