Another Starting Problem!!!
Discussion
Help Chaps,I've another problem with starting. Brief history; cooked the starter after prolonged cranking. I've replaced the unit, turn the key all works as normal ie fuel pump, healthy click from the new starter, no rotation. First thoughts were a duff new starter so slaved a power lead direct from the battery to the input side of the 100 amp fuse. Sarted first turn of the key. Thoughts turned to a knackered battery, same results using another battery. So I've discounted the battery and am wondering if I've managed to burn out the main positive feed from the battery to the starter or is there another fuse/relay in the system as there's no voltage at the input to the 100amp fuse.Is this live with the ignition off? What I can see of the main cable appears to be OK. Where does the main feed from the battery go, direct to the alternator and then to the starter via the 100 amp fuse, or via another connection point? I'm deffinatly pi**off being unable to sort what appeared to be a straight forward problem.I just hope I haven't also bu**ered the alternator! i'm going for a beer and then probably some more!! Any help chap would be greatly received. Cheers John042
Hi All again. Problem sorted. If Big Geoff is reading this post, it was a VERY tehnical problem Geoff to do with ballast resistors, diodes and electrical cross matched relays!! So an avaition engineer was able to sort it. To anyone else the Stupid Old G** left a wire of the starter connection, there are two!! What a to**er. Morale of the story, don't trust cheap starters the're not quite up to the job, at least prolonged cranking. Happy days are here again
