New to Chim maintenance, so, before I delve in with fingers and thumbs trying to get to the bulbs I was hoping someone might confirm what the problem is with my headlights.

The nearside headlight only gives off very low light. When I turn on to side lights, the headlights give off the low light (as expected) I then turn to driving lights, with either dipped or full beam and the nearside light remains as it was on side lights setting. The offside headlight light works fine giving the sidelight, normal and full beam.

I assume this is just a matter of a new bulb, but would just like someone to confirm before I start taking wheels off and getting into the headlight unit.

PS. Assuming it is the bulb, is changing it a 5 minute, 1hr or afternoon job? Also, do you know what the bulb is so I can get one in advance. The car is a 4.0 '97.

Thanks in advance.

is it pre or post face lift?

If it's pre then you can get to the bulbs by taking the front grill off and reaching in.

If it's post then you will need to take the appropriate front wheel off to get to the access flap.

Make sure if this is done you reseal properly.
Bulbs are H4 for both early and late cars BTW.

See SHPub's Bible for more details
