can you dismantle serp alternator

Hi guys one of my winter projects is to tidy up the engine bay, Part of this is trying to make the alternator all shiny however to do this I need to dismantle it.
I have removed the front pulley and what I can of the rear and undone the 4 bolts holding to 2 halves together, however it doesnt seem to want to come apart, am I missing something obvious or is it some form of electrical black magic that shouldnt be played with?
