What items for road trip?

I have just brought my first TVR after 2 years of waiting and looking at around i can finally afford one!!!!!


I cant wait to pick it up on thursday. I will be driving it to france on friday to the French GP - how mad is that?! the first day i drive it will be in a diffrent country!

Anyway what should i consider taking with me in case i get caught out with a problem with the car, in terms of spare parts and tools etc.

I have breakdown cover for the trip but would hate to go home on a flat bed!

anyone had any bad experiences i could learn from?

car is a T plate 4.0 Chim

If you brought it from a garage, then ask them to put together a touring spares kit, mine cost about £50.

Fan belt,
Various fuses, including the 100amp beastie.
Set of bulbs,
Basic tool kit, got mine from Halfrauads about £20.
First aid kit,
Warning Triangle, (combined with First aid kit. (again Halfrauds).
Bottle of water to top up rad if required.
Roll of duck tape.

That’s about it.

Good luck with the purchase and the journey.

Makes sure you scan the TVR General forum too as there have been a few of us asking questions on Euro driving trips recently.

Also some threads in the Griff forum (in case you didnt know its the same car underneath).

fan belt
accelerator cable
tyre weld
various 2 way connectors
bulbs

I know, I know.
Its just that I have made so many bad Chim comments in the past Im trying to make up for them now by telling the Chim owners that there cars are BETTER than ours. Dont tell them the truth though, at least not until I consider selling anyway!

How to fit fan belt!
How to override the fans,
How to get to and change bulbs,

To Date (looks around for lump of wood) never used any of them.
Did 1400 miles in France last September, no problems.

Think of the Griffs as the exclusive Chim, for those that dont need to carry luggage!

BTW: I like both cars but also like a good bit of banter

Since the nipple on my throttle cable parted company with the cable - accelerator end, I always carry a little electical block, you know with the little screw as a temporary replacement

Throttle cable on my S3c went whilst overtaking in France! Went at the engine and so I managed to loop the snapped cable, bind it with some fuse wire and hooked a zippie tie around the throttle arm, thoightenend it up a few clicks and Bobs-your-uncle! Rich...

Just completed 2000 miles trip to Italy no problems just 1 litre of oil and lots of superunleaded.

Where is this 100 amp fuse
