I've got a motorsport and track day itch I want to scratch the problem is I can’t justify or afford having the Chimaera and another toy. So the dilemma is do I spend the money on my 450 (it needs a roof anyway) to make it suitable for the hill climbing and sprinting or sell it and buy something probably better suited?

To be honest I’m not even sure how much I’d get for my 2001 Mk3 450 with 32k miles as it does need a little cosmetic love on the hood and carpets and a few nose stonechips and I’m under no illusion I’d get anywhere near the £23k Fernnies are asking for theirs.
If I keep the TVR what would I need to up rate / change for the TVR speed championship? Brakes, suspension, cooling, breathing, seats, rollbar and various other stuff I’m sure and I’ve no idea what that little lot would cost.

Anybody else had the dilemma or any suggestions?

Don't need to do anything to the car to compete in sprints and hill climbs. Get a license, helmet and overalls and that is it. The TVR championship is based on handicap using power to weight and tyre choice so the more the car is developed in these areas, the bigger the handicap.

It is a real low cost way of getting a taste of what you want to do.

Sprinters also tend to make good racers as they are used to going all out on cold tyres right from the start. wink

I suspect it's actually plus 48.......there were 48 of us in the 2011 TVR Speed Championship - 25 Events split between speed hillclimbs and sprints.

This is the man to ask: Steve Cox: coxygoesvroom@blueyonder.co.uk

Best way to waste your time......................with tks to Steve Cox!!

just make sure the car is in tip top condition and seriously consider getting the rear seat mounts strengthened/fixed to the chassis, since they are just mounted in the glass fibre. Mr Cox is your man.

Best way to find out if you like it is to come along and play.

It's more of an affliation really but you do need to be in the club, as said above Steve Cox is your man.

(I seem to be getting errors on the website at the moment)

How does the system work?
Mines making 600bhp+ so how much headstart does a 150Bhp one get?

Ask our man Matt Oakley with the 6.2 ltr Lsx engined Griff and Paul Edwards with his 4.5 ltr T350, winner in 2010!!

Pauls is a 4.2.

Lobley drove that Vixen very well, deserved the championship - its a very competitive championship, but a friendly bunch at the same time. The handicap system means its a relatively level playing field, although I think you'll struggle generally for traction on the twistier stuff Brummmie... I know Matt does and he's sub-500bhp/ft lbs.

Sounds like it might be worth a go!
Agreed, getting all that power down would be a struggle.
Do they have rounds in the midlands?

I knew someone would correct me! Expecting Tailside to do so!

Still, as you say, too much power is not healthy - wet Prescott, I remember Matt saying he could do with half the power he had....then I realised a 400 Chim was what he wanted.......I had one , but I couldn't get the power down either !!!!

Lots Paul. Dad mainly competes in Midland Speed Championship events because we're based in South Birmingham mainly. smile

Exactly K4, power is useless without control, or some other PR blurb... hehe
