how long....body off
Discussion
so...went in the garage this morning to do a couple of little jobs, and by lunchtime
the exhaust, engine, gearbox, fuel pump and lines, seats and whaletale were on the floor....
my chassis has been looked after, but there are a few "crusty" bits around welds, where itll need some attention
I planned this winter to do a body lift to do that properly, but as the engine is out, the diff is coming out for a bush change and new oil seals, and i've new shocks, new polybushes etc are in the garage to be fitted, ......IF i start spannering again how long would it reasonably take the get the body to the point of coming off....given that ive soaked everything with penetrating oil today to make the body lift as easy as poss.....

Just do it, I started that way in jan 2010 by June it was all back together with a new lump and s/c kit. Looking back it wasn't hard at all and if you intend to keep the car the best way to go for long term ownership , any questions just shout
If you got that lot out rad, fuel tank , then it just the bolts front, back and under the carpet on the transmission tunnel to undo

I reckon within a day , if you already have the engine out.
Have a look at the Wiki I wrote.

some of the links in the wicki are dead, but the link to the northants pics are really useful...that could be my car from the before chassis pics
OK, job done, my car is now in 2 distinct big "bits" in the garage, surrounded by many more smaller bits.....
those leftover chinese takeaway containers come in really handy for putting different piles of nuts and bolts in, with a card telling me whats inside!
Taken loads of piccies so i can remember the installation details
only hard part was getting the rad out. removed the bolts as per the "bible" tugged, nothing happened, took quote some effort to pull the rad free from the foam stuff, (spent some time looking for a bolt that I must have missed)....as i was concerned about twisting it and damaging the core, but it came free in the end.
worse part of the whole job to date was removing the gearbox from below....needed a funky "corkscrew" action to get the bellhousing clear of the chassis rails, next time i'd probably take the engine out first and then the box, or perhaps both together with the box attached....and my axle stands arent tall enough to get the bellhousing under the chassis rails, had to take it all the way out the back of the car between the chassis rails....PITA laying on your back
SO far.....a little surface rust on outriggers in usual places, but nothing that looks like the welder is needed, though we will reserve judgement till the blasting is done
