Hi,

Having got tme and the car home in one piece in yesterdays winds, rain and thunder storms I've looked it all over read the book and still have 2 puzzling areas.

Car is a griff 500 book is for a 4.0 and 4.3.

Question 1 - What do the 4 x silver ball controls do ??

Question 2 - How does the roof go in the boot. I've tried every which way and when I thought I'd got it cracked (windscreen side down and carbon side facing me and the rear of the car) the spare got in the way and I couldn't fit the full panel in

Other than that great car. Faster than expected too but not too much of a handful (I've driven a lot less well mannered cars).

Dave,

You've got the roof correct except that you need to take the spare out before trying to fit the panel in the boot.

As for the controls, a similar question was asked some time ago. I posted up a scanned extract from the Griff 500 manual on the Cambridge TVRCC message board
http://web.ukonline.co.uk/cambs-tvrcc/index.html
then go to "Contact Us" and sign in to the Yahoo Group. The instructions are in the "Files" section under "Griffith Controls".

Enjoy your car but take care, because even if you think you have tamed the Griff it will bite you when you are not prepared.

Many thanks.

I wouldn't dream of thinking I've tamed it in one day.

So far I've been too scared to exploit it. Once I've taken my shares in an underpant factory I might start to get to grips with it

I was just surprised how well balanced it is on first impressions thats all. I had a race tuned 435BHP MR2 Turbo in the (distant?) past and it was just evil.

I never once felt safe in the car and sold it after 3 months of random bizarre handling.

At the same time I promised myself never to have another Mid engined car unless the company involved had a Ferrairi sized R&D budget

I'm still at the amazed by the torque in 5th gear at the moment with the griff.

Yes - plus, put the left-hand end in first (the bottom-right-hand corner always chafes the boot lip as it goes in). When it's in, level it and pull the lower (front) edge towards you to get the rear corners down, or they can stop the boot closing properly.

Did you get a vinyl bag to put the roof panel in? If so, do use it. I know it's an arse to use, but if you don't, you'll get a shiny patch on the mohair where it rubs against the fuel tank in transit. If you didn't get one (sign of careless former owner IMHO) consider getting one. I think Leven do a fancy one with extra straps.

Other subtle points - when folding the targa bit down, get as many creases out of the clear plastic as you can. Plus, don't leave it folded down for long periods, especially in cold weather, as the creases get more permanent. And of course, when you fold the targa back up, open the doors a little so the rubber seals go inside the window glass and not outside.

Easy really! APart form all that, I hope you enjoy your new steed and if you've got any other niggly questions feel free to mail me.

NB: Eunos: That's an imported MX-5, no? I saw one yesterday which had a different front-end - a sort of strap-on conversion that covered the existing headlights and made it look a bit like an AC with round headlights. Have you seen this before or was it a one-off?
