Had a brake caliper that wasn'tworking very well, so replaced it today andi managed to let quite a lot of brake fluid out.

Stuck the new caliper on and bled the caliper and no fluid coming out at all (tried for over an hour). Could not also get any fluid out of the other rear caliper. Even tried a vacum pump as well to no avail.

So i thinking that either the bias valve or the master cylinder has stopped working, has anyone had this or a similar problem.

Strange one.

Have you pumped the pedal continuously with one nipple open.

If you are using a pressure feed to the master, I wouldn't think you could go wrong, they're foolproof!

If you're near, I'll give you a hand.

Thanks for offer thats really kind.

I have tried pumping it constantly with a nipple open. I have also tried pumping the pedal, whilst opening and closing the nipple.

when you pump the brake pedal it feels like the master cylinder isn't working properly as when you pump the pedal then open the nipple and then close it again then the pedal doesn't have any feel to it.

I am thinking master cylinder....

At no time have you said that you've "topped-up" the master cylinder???

Sorry to ask the obvious????????????

Just humour me and say that you have removed the sealed cover and unscrewed the master cylinder cap and filled it up with new fluid????

If you have, I apologise for stating the obvious and hope you do not have a faulty new caliper!!

Happy New Year!

I have indeed, dont think its the caliper as neither seem to be pumping fluid now.

The master cylinder, what car is it from? Mk3 fiesta?

Have you tried to pull fluid through one of the front calipers.

Seems strange that the master cylinder should go from working to nothing at all.

Jon,
May be a daft question but have you jacked the car up level? If you have just jacked the rear of the car up you will get an air lock in the reservoir! Jack it up level and start again.

I had exactly this problem. Found out, after pumping for an hour or so, that my wife was pumping the clutch pedal!

May be the master cylinder as you say, have heard of them failing due to the seals moving in the part of the cylinder that it does not normally move in, last time I did it I just pumped it with short strokes to try to avoid the problem. a bit late now I know getmecoat

Looks like it is the master cylinder, don't suppose anyone has a part number from ford.

Clevor Trevor seems to be closed for christmas.

Sure looks right to me.

Have you tried Racing Green or Racetech Direct if uncertain about using the Ford part?
