Just removed the interior light relay (far top right on the fuse board ).

My interior light has never worked via the door switchs ,should the light dim slowly when the door is shut or just turn off .

The relay always feels hot even with the ignition off .

A part number would be nice ..cheers

I've never used the interior light and only discovered by chance that my battery going flat was being caused by the relay being permanently energised (presumably due to it being faulty).

Just removed it and threw it in the bin.

As has been noted in a couple of other threads; often the door switch doesn't fully depress (or work at all) and this keeps the relay 'on' causing surprisingly rapid battery discharge. Ensuring the door switch worked properly cured it for me.
Others ( I believe ) have suggested that replacing the relay itself has done been necessary.

No doubt there are weaknesses in the design/build, but I can assure people the original system does work, providing all is in order.

Aside from the 'days of the dodgy door switch', I have never had any fear of parking the car for several weeks at a stretch.
Though aside from leaving the country, nothing has so far induced me to such a drastic [lack of] action!

Thank for that, the light works manually so could it still be one of those switches.

The 'relay' is a timer switch, it should keep the lights on for @30secs after the door is closed, and switch them off if the door is left open for maybe 15-30mins (temp related I think). It will also switch the (30secs) timer off if you turn the ignition key. There is also a link to the heated mirrors to tell them to switch off if you open/close the door after switching the ignition on.

It's a pretty common Ford part, just remember Ford for the courtesy light & Vauxhall for the Wipers when looking for the odd 'relays' in the fusebox.
