So I'm looking for a small tinker to my stnd engined 500. A bit more RV8 sound would be nice and perhaps a few horses and Torque would be useful.

If i remove the precats only, what if any, improvements in these areas can i expect? Any issues benefits/pitfalls?

I am not prepared at this stage to remove main Cats & associated conversion bits straight throughs etc what with noise levels on track & MOT inconvenience etc and i dobn't wish the noise to be too much.

Any wisdom to those that have done this appreciated

General opinion is that only good things happen by removong the pre-cats. Lower under bonnet temperatures and slightly louder perhaps. I don't think it makes any difference to bhp and torque though.

Bruises, scrapes, cuts etc.

On the plus side a few free ponies and a lot of extra money in the swear box.

Do a good search on the forum mate .
You will find alot of info myself and others have said on the subject. I have removed the pre and main cats. ( now has the ACT y section). The main cat removal is easy , just involves loosening the exhaust system. The pre - cats are a pain in the arse.smash
To be honest I am not sure about performance improvement on either job as I did them both at the same time. I sure the temp levels are better and the car certainly sounded louder !. It has always performed well though.
My reasons , as you will read was more about the sound.
The topic was titled “ I want a le mans corvette sounding exhaust! “.
Give it a look. There is a recent thred just started too.biggrin
