I will start by saying my car drives perfectly, no strange noises or loss of power, however when i give it the beans the oil pressure dial drops to nought and when i lift off it goes back to normal. should i be worried?.i would like to add that my previous cars dropped a little but not zero.Gary

Had the same issue. Got it "wet" tested at Str8Six, he said oil pressures is fine. Dial/sensor is just delicate.

Had enought of it now though and got the sensor changed. No big deal.

Had *exactly* the same fault here, and having read the same symptoms from other people I decided to replace the oil pressure sender.

Try this thread: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=984...

IMHO if your oil pump is producing sensible pressure at most engine speeds, it's very unlikely that it will suddenly produce zero pressure (or, in my case, well below zero according to the gauge) and then return to normal a few seconds later. That behaviour is 99% likely to be the sender. The "negative pressure" indication was the clincher for me!

The cheap eBay sender suggested on the thread above has not yet let anyone down that I know of, so it's worth a punt. If you're worried, then stay away from high power until you've had a chance to try a new sender. I'm 99% certain it'll fix your problem.

I now get rock steady pressure readings, and they're much more in keeping with what you'd expect a proper reading to be.

Before (note how oily the sender is - it was leaking badly):
