I have 16s on both the front and back (imola wheels), currently i have 225/40/16 on the front and was wondering what the best size would be for the back.

Having searched there are quite a few options.

I was going to fit 245/45/16 (Toyo TR1s), would this be best or would 225/40/16 be better on the rears.

All help would be appreciated.

Imolas on the rear 16 inch - tyres should be as close to factory standard

225 50 R16

not 225 40 R16

Unless anyone else has a view read on 245 45 R16? wider tyres bounce around more?

I have 245/45/16 Toyos on the back. They're fine and don't look so balloon-like as 225/50/16.

I had 245/45 on the back of my old 450. These were on estorils and I felt they worked just fine. Only changed as I moved up to 17" wheels all round - and stuck to 225 profile front and back - 40 and 45 depth iirc.

Then you'll need larger dia wheels which will mean a new set of wheels. Just buy 245/45/16 whilst you deliberate, they wear out quick enough smile

Your pushing it ! think the rule of thumb is 8j but alot of people run 245`s on the imolas with no problems..

The Tyre calculator comes up with 30mm smaller on diameter when fitting the 245`s with a 40 profile

http://www.alloywheels.com/Tyre_Calculator

225/50/16 632mm diameter 6 to 7.5 J

245/40/16 602mm diameter 8 to 9.5 J

235/50/16 342mm diamter 6,5 to 8 J

245/45/16 626mm diameter 8 to 9.5 J

Its up to you but the i would fancy the 235/50/16 because the speedo slighly under reads ..

Not necessarily. I've had four 500s, all on Imolas. (It was a factory option)

Nope, Imolas & Estorils @ 16 inch are both the same, 7.5J
