We could by a set and split ,anything with 4x108 ET around 35, 8 to 9 J ,Just for the strip ,can eather swop them there or drive home with the R888`s fitted .

Im wonder which size would work best 16" to 18" and i may even get a larger diameter tyre (higher wall height) just to change the ratio a bit.

Derek which wheel size works the best..Im thinking small wheel with a large wall height.

Big fat spongy tyres scratchchin Presumably we're looking for maximum contact area with the tarmac.... Would I be correct that a higher wall tyre is likely to lose less road contact when it starts 'bouncing'.... compared to a low profile tyre on a big diameter wheel...

Yes you could even go 15" think the tyres are even cheaper..low profile tyres seem to be more expensive..

Methinks a bit of research is needed here Daz......

Ive squeezed 255/50's on a pair of 16" Imolas. They did rub on the inner arches a little on the old suspension. A bit of fibreglass work on the inner arches and now on Nitrons i dont have a problem.
I think a wider wheel with a better offset would help centralise the tyre better.

so the larger tyre should give different higher gears...better for the 1/4 mile run..less spinning and will not run out of steam at the end.. Maybe a 25 offset would be better, bring the tyre out .

The large tyre on the left is the smallest diameter MT do at that size for a 16" wheel. The tyres were bought and made to fit.
Another benefit to the MTs is they have a soft sidewall that allow the tyre to squat on launch and create a bigger footprint. The R888s have a stiff sidewall that doesnt allow for the sqat effect so much but is much nicer and safer to drive home on.

Derek, bit of a big ask, but any idea what difference the larger diameter MT's would make in terms of mph per 1000rpm in 3rd ??

Road tyres are 245/35/18 with a rolling rad of 6.48 feet and the MTs are 255/50/16 with 6.82 feet.
With a 3.45:1 diff this equates to 21.4 mph per 1000 rpm in 4th on the Toyos and 22.5 mph on the MTs.

3rd is 1.323:1 therefore = 16.1 and 17 respectively.

So you can hit 110.5 at 6500 rpm in 3rd on the bigger MTs but only 104.6 on the T1Rs.

HTH

I change gear about 5800 in 3rd which is just beyond the 1/8 so i run the 2nd 1/8 'lazily' in 4th to 125+ terminal.
