I must have lost the plot here and have money to burn,but I'm considering a full respray.(The Chim not me)
Now some dealer, I won't say which one,came up with a figure of £6000-£ 7000,I know paint colours vary re cost but WTF it's not gold leaf I'm looking for.
So any of you had some experience here -costs, body shops etc.

BTW I'm south of Watford.

Well it's about £600 for a full front end respray so a total respray I can't imagine would cost more than three or four times that at most.

Why not spend the dosh on some engine upgrades. (Check out HERE!)

Well, the full story is that some woman reveresed into the back of mine and smashed the nearside lens and fibreglass. They had quoted the insurance company £400. While I was there I asked how much to do the nearside front wing too, they said that they may as well respray the entire side of the car, which turned into, "well, how much would a full respray cost?"

They'd never done fibreglass cars before and scratched their heads a little and said about £1000 to £1200, so I said including the insurance pay out of £400 I'll give you £600 cash, they said okay.

I returned 7 days later to a brand new paint job which actaully changes colour in the light, it never used to before because the paint was so old.

But in my case, my car's old and pretty knackered so I wasn't too bothered about an amazing job. If the car cost you an arm and a leg then I'd get someone who has experience of TVR's.

Oh, and I can't remember their name, but it was in Barnsley. They're just an insurance approved shopping car repairer.

For a full respray on a Sunbeam Lotus, from bare matal I have been quoted 4 1/2k. That is for two metallic colours with a hand painted coach line, and then clear finish. That is to paint a car to concours standard. If the Chim is not a colour change, and there is not too much body work damage I would consider around 3K + the dreaded VAT to be the very tiop end of the scale - remembering there is no roof to paint!

Were you planning a colour change as they have to take the engine out to do that, They practically take the car appart if you have it done properly and that costs

Best of luck with what? The work was done nearly a year ago and still looks great.

Now if you meant best of luck in life then that's a different matter
