My clutch pedal seems very "loose" and it seems to getting harder to get into gears. Any thoughts on what needs to be done ?

Sounds like low fluid level.
Take the round black cover off from the inner wing under the bonnet and check the fluid level.

If its low top up the level. If it’s still not feeling right bleed the system through to get rid of any air that has been sucked in.

If you do have low fluid, then you have to find out why. Check for dampness around the clutch peddle and under the car where the slave cylinder is. It’s likely either the master cylinder or slave have a leak. New seals should fix this.

Update so I filled up the clutch bottle it took only an egg cup full to fill. Pumped the slackish clutch pedal left it for a few hours. Still full, drove home but now "crunches" getting into reverse. Still feels slack as well ?

You need to bleed the system to get rid of the air that was sucked in when there was no fluid.

Either take it to a garage / get yourself one of those easy bleed things / get under the car with a bit of windscreen washer hose, an empty bottle and a spanner and get a helpful assistant with strong legs.

And to lessen any crunching going in to reverse, always depress clutch go in to 5th gear first then slide it back in to reverse. (It aligns the cogs or casts a voodoo spell or something - but it works).

The well known TVR 5-to-R flick.
Voodoo spell for sure smile
