I am toying with getting another Chimaera as I miss the V8 roar and low down grunt.
Does anyone know this one or have owned it?

Dont know the car, but not to impressed with the attempt to clean up the chassis. Looks like a quick rub down with a wire brush and spray on some white paint!yikes

That would put me off straight away. Preventative maintenance done well is a good selling point.......quick bodge it job scratchchin

Would make me wonder what else has been "sorted"

100% agreed - its not even smooth under the paint by the looks of it and the overspray is everywhere!

Yes I spotted that! I would have a thorough inspection done however am wary of buying from a non TVR specialist. Just wondered if it was owned by a Pistonheader.

I would hope it wasn't - that paint job shows a shocking lack of comprehension of what TVR's are all about. I have visions of someone wanting to sell their car and knowing the outriggers have got issues; thinking they will get some unwary buyer to believe its been "cared for" by crudely spraying paint over the top of the cr@ppy bits. They have simply made matters worse imo.

If it's near you go and have a nose to see what could go wrong with a potential purchase. Take a checklist of problems and go through them methodically.

Worth a look at 11k, if the outriggers are shot then factor that in to the negotiation.
Doesn't say anything about service history though - if the dealer knows the chassis is a weak point, then he knows a solid SH is critical. Go with your eyes open, and you might get a winter bargain.

Way too cheap for a year 2000 5.0 litre, 1 owner car with 18k miles

Why aren't the rocker covers purple ?

Would go and look though, because even needing outriggers if it's "proper" with FSH then it's still cheap cheap

Does seem cheap for a late 2000 car but may just be a bargain. Waiting to hear back about service history!

Reply from the dealer:

"servicing has been done by a qualifited local mechanic and there are bills to back it up.Both me and the MOT have checked the chassis and it seems all solid,as you say it has been painted but the reason it is uneven is that it has been sprayed with stonechip resitant underseal

The service history is 3 or 4 services which equates to evey 6,000 miles. The owner has another vehicle so he only used it in the summer months which explains the mileage.the servicing is not by a TVR man but a local man of over 25 years experience"

hasnt Richard come back to you ? wink

(It's that cheap I phoned him myself, but got his mum)

This one is too good to be true to be right, if it is i'll kick myself for missing it, Fernie's would be asking £20k+ for it. If it has FSH buy it, if it doesnt, give it a miss. Even of you spend £3-4k on it you;ll have bought it well.

3 or 4 services over 12 years? These engines need an oil change every 6 months, at best that's 1 every 3 years. Smells of cam wear to me, with associated swarf circulating. That's without considering the gearbox and diff.

Now I'm the last person to claim engineering credentials but changing the oil every 6months on an RV8 ?

S6Devil - ask Alexdaredevilz to look over the car with you - he's in Peterborough.

This might/might not be a bargain - certainly worth checking out. And bearing in mind the asking price is £11k, it might come at £10k
