I recently removed the plenum and inlet manifold to renew the valley gasket and managed to snap the spade off the end of the temp sensor.
I purchased a new one from Rimmer Bros and fitted it to the manifold before i put everything back on the car. On start up all was fine but after only 5 mins the temp gauge was reading way over 100. I knew this was wrong, as the fans had not kicked in, and going from past experience of the engine at or near 90 during spirited summer blasts, the engine was nowhere near the temp on the gauge.
I used an infa red thermometer to measure the correct temp and it was mid eighties and not long after the fans kicked in as they should.
A bit of research later and the realisation i had purchased the wrong temp sensor. The TVR one is very specific to the gauges used in the chimaera. I ordered the correct one from Racetech but my problem now was do i remove all the plenum, fuel rail and inlet manifold to swap them over or do i try and remove/refit in situ.

Hence the title it has taken me most of the afternoon and a great deal of swearing etc but i have managed to do it in situ.
The pic shows where i had to unscrew and remove/ refit the sender. You need the patience of a saint as its a quarter of a turn at a time due to the "tight" position.

Moral of the story ........make sure you have the CORRECT TEMP SENSOR.

Maybe usefull as a heads up for anyone else.

Or alternatively you could use the Land Rover one that should be in situ at the front nearside of the manifold with a resister.

Covered here somewhere, use search to find.

The bottom of the manifold is not the best location for having an accurate reading. When I had my inlet manifold off, I re-located the temp sender to a new position and blanked off the old one,. Many other people have used different methods to over come the access to this little gadget some use the original rover unit with a resistor.

This little rachet spanner by Mastercraft is useful for difficult nuts including removal of throttle bracket from plenum. With some patience!

Philip. A good photo, but where is the 'little gaget' temp sensor in photo?[url][img]
