I certainly let my sender into gallery plug on that housing on a serpentine engine but, from memory, it looks a little different to that. Is yours a pre-serp?

Definitely a better alternative to the 'usual' sump plug tapping in my experience.

IIRC that is a really odd thread, you will likely have to get an adapter made up.

If I was you I'd consider getting a new pressure sensor from ETB (with the pressure switch built in so that it does both) and putting the temp sensor in the front cover tapping that the pressure switch used since there is very good flow past that point.

PS DO forget the sump plug method, been there, done that... might as well just have an extra water temp gauge that works slow wink

You don't happen to know what size thread there is on the sump plug i think this could be the easy option thanks.

Just buy a sump plug from LR indies like Paddock, then get it tapped for your sender. You still have to take the whole plug out to drain the oil, so an adapter bush is no good.

The sump plug option is not good for a number of reasons, including the proximity of the exhaust (the extra 'height' with a sender terminal protruding makes removal/reinstalling the bung on oil changes fiddly), the electrical connection for it is vulnerable to water and road debris contamination (I was forever repairing mine), and the presence of the sender in the middle of the bung means you are stuck with the original spanner driven type rather than being able to use the far more secure socket headed type that is much less prone to being spun out by grounding etc

Also, as Spend says, the monitoring function in the sump is not a responsive or even that reliable a measure of the oil temperature the bearings are seeing. Very marked difference in the data that comes from the filter housing and from the sump.

The combined pressure switch and temp sender sounds interesting but you will need to ensure the sender used has the right resistance curve for your gauge.

Looks like a 12mm diameter plug. There were two on my P6 V8. Used one to pump oil in with large syringe to top up after an oil change. Listen for the oil hissing in the rocker box. Then oil pump is fully primed and instant pressure on start up. Not certain on a pre-serb or a serb motor. More likely on the pre-serb.

How are you progressing with this Floyd?

I'd like to follow in your shoes on this.
What temp gauge are you thinking of using?

Could you not use the water temp gauge and flick between the two senders, unless you are looking for hugely accurate measurements!

Did it need a boss, or straight replacement?

There is an adapter plate bolted to the boss and the wheel bolts on to that, found the adapter on the net just searched personnel to momo adapter.
