Since owning my 4 litre 1997 car, the oil pressure has always been 30 lb when running. Yesterday on the way to the East Midlands meet the gauge was showing 60,then 90, then flicking between the two.
On the way back it was reading 30 again all the way home. Today it is reading 90 all the time.
The connections to the sender appear to be ok, but is there a way to test the sender unit or is it a case of swop it and see.
Assuming if everything is ok electrically and the gauge is right what could be wrong?

The sender for the guage is below the front pulley area. Check that the electrical connection is good as it tends to suffer from corrosion.
If the problem persists, check the pressure with a capillary type pressure guage or get your service agent/dealer to check it for you.
