Not easy as it's both bolted and glued.

Depends if the bolts are ceased together like on mine Ropps. I treid to get it off over the weekend and it's been an absolute nightmare. Going to have to cut the bolts off that are seized on !! ARGH !!

If the bolts are in tact and you can get them appart i can't see it being massively difficult though !

As this thread is roof related can I ask a quick question regarding the rear window?

I'm looking at buying my first Chimaera (and first TVR) and the seller of a car that i'm interested in has told me the following:

" There is a small tear in the rear window off side next to the stitching "

How easy is it to get this fixed? Can the rear window be replaced as a unit or does the whole of the rear roof section need to be replaced?

I know it's a how long is a peice of string question but thought i'd ask...

Cheers,
Phill

i got a quote for a replacement window and re stitching it back to the hood and its in the region of £250 to £400

i have been quoted £150 to re stitch the plastic back to the hood. Even though its a small corner of thread thats come off on my car, the whole lot needs to be re stitched as when the guy takes the roof off he cannot gaurantee that the other parts of the window will de-thread....

It sounds like its a pain to try and do yourself or myself so £150 is not to bad for a days/2 days work.

but if your back window is ripped then your looking at a minimum of £250....

It's usual to get a new plastic window put in from time to time (allegedly, the thread TVR used was not waterproof and used to rot and then the plastic would become detached along the sewn seams..but never heard of other stiched seams going in the same way). Any competent trimming company can do this. If you get the folding rear section off the car, the cost should be about £150. If you just present the car to the trimmers and allow them to remove the folding section, then costs will increase accordingly. I'd say you'd be talking £250-£300

In the past, I have heard on here about people who have claimed on their insurance 'glass' cover, hence have had the work done for just the cost of their 'glass' excess.

Took mine to a place in Wheathamstead and the guy charged me £180 to replace the screen. That included removal from the car too.

I took off the whole rear section (2 bolts either side of the 'hoop' and three screws at the rear) and took it to a guy near Milton Keynes who sewed in a new back screen for about £90.

He didn't need to disturb the glued bit over the hoop.

Thanks for the heads up, very new to the tvr set up, what's the hoop? Where is the hoop? If I can get the roof off I can get the roof repaired for free from a family friend, but I need to bring the roof to him

Rear screen on my Griff has come unstitched and is scruffy so I want to replace it. From talking to a couple of well known trimmers I'm not sure how feasible it is for a trimmer to sew in a replacement screen with the hood still attached to the hoop etc as it can get in the way on the sewing machine.

I've decided to go for new hood and new screen as little more money compared to the cost of removal, clearing old glue, stitching, and re-attaching (without ripples) the old hood with a new screen.

I'd imagine he's talking about the bit that the tagra slots into behind your head that you can also push right down. I may be wrong though....

Sorry I can't find the receipt. The guy I used also runs a mobile service, but I took mine to him. A small industrial estate on a farm near MK. Google has come up with someone called "Autotrim" but I'm not 100% certain it was the same guy.

By the 'hoop' I mean the rigid part that the targa slots into and folds down with the rear part of the hood. Dunno what else to call it!
