After selling my Chimaera 4 or years ago I promised myself that I would one day have another TVR. That day is finally here and now begins the fun part of countless visits to PH classifieds and Ebay looking for my new baby. Now I had been promising myself a Cerebera as it is the car I absolutely lusted over as a teenager..... but I find myself being drawn to getting another Chimaera, I think the appeal of open top motoring with Rover V8 FM at full blast is too great.

That said I think it would have to be a 5.0 or 4.5 this time around just so it is that little bit more exciting and to partially compensate not getting a cerebera! Ideally it would have to be under 10k, otherwise I think mrs dicanio will leave me if I spend more then that judging by her reaction when she saw me casually browsing an add for a slightly highly priced 5L chim! (unfortunately in her non PH mind my money is much better sitting in savings account earning 0.08% or something daft like that).

With the above in mind this caught my eye today.....

Seems good value for a 5L despite being highish milaege (82k). Is this of any concern for the 5L? I know the 4L is relatively bullet proof but I believe the 5L is a more stressed unit? Could I be facing some potentially imminent large bills? I'm not overly worried as it appears to have been well cared for and obviously used fairly reguarly. Or should I be concerned? and is there anything I should be looking out for at that mileage?

Any thoughts experiences and advice greatly appreciated! I look forward to being amongst your number once again driving

hi paulo , are you still in stortford ? i use to blast past in my tam where you use to live
thats when you had the white chim

that 5 ltr looks to cheap to me thats a lot of car on a x plate for that money
would make me think whats wrong with it , the mileage is on the high side but if its
been serviced its good for a long time yet , from the photo it looks a nice car

check out the chassis etc and all the normal things that can wear
but at that price you may have some spare cash to replace things
i would guess that a x reg 5 ltr chim with that mileage would be worth £12,000 + all day long

cheers keith

Hi Keith

I've moved out of stortford now but not far to pledgedon green which is one of those micro villages at the back of the airport! Almost a complete contrast to where I was before. With the added bonus of having a hoooge garage waiting to house my new toy. A bit more suitable then stuck on the side of stansted road!
I did see you a couple times I think, it was always easy to hear a TVR approach down that particular section of road. Very pleasing acoustics indeed!

Back on topic though, I also thought it sounded perhaps too cheap. I wondering if anything notoriously goes hideous wrong at that stage of the engines life? I seem to remeber reading once upon a time the 5L suffered from crank issues(?)
Anyway good to hear from you and TVR is going strong!
