Im getting interested in a Chimaera at the moment.

I know you can get some horror stores, but so can every car. But what are they like to work on in general?

I have a fully fitted workshop and the odd slave, but do you need to be a 11 year old Russian circus contortionist to work on them?

A man of your engineering talents, you will be fine. Also the knowledge of the guys on pistonheads is incredible. If you get stuck there will always be someone to give you a hand. oh plus the cheeky comments and digs here and there...

No worse than any other - things like getting the dashboard out is a bit painful, but overall they're simply put together. Invest in the Steve Heath book (the Bible) - it saves lots of finding stuff out for yourself. I've always done lots of my own work on cars and overall, I haven't found one that hasn't had some sort of peculiar pain in the ar5e job or other. Even my old Series 3 landy had me swearing at the brakes, and that was about as simple a car as any I've had.

Go for it.

Really easy to work on. Drop off at Dan Taylors, have a cup of tea. He fixes or services it, I come back and collect and everyone is happy.

You forgot getting the battery out or changing a fuse.

If you have access to a ramp dropping off the exhaust is simple. The manifolds are just a pita to get the bolts out of and need the starter motor removing first, but I've taken the entire exhaust off my pre-cat Griffith in 2 hours this afternoon.
The battery and fuses are again made a whole lot easier on a ramp.
If its a Chim you're after you won't be worried about the roof/boot problem. Most Chim owners don't even seem to be aware the roof comes off winklaugh
