How to check the LSD ( noisy diff... )

HI all,, hope someone can help ..
Not sure what LSD diff I have, understand there are 2 - clutch or viscous..( L plate 430 Chim)
Is there a way to check its operation.
and does anyone know of likely faults..
Getting a lot of noise from it..
