Hi Mark,

saw a thread about the motor your talking about.

Great price? but why so low priced? i think was the conclusion..

Only 1 way to find out and that is going to look at it or getting someone to view it properly for you,

If its straight then its a cracking price..

I picked my CHIM 400 at a low price through friends in the trade. Thinking it was going to be a pile of rust! ended up with something quite special and well looked after..

give it ago, nothing to lose, but a hell of a lot to gain...

Looks pretty good to me, maybe he wants a quick sale ? this time of the year tends to be the time to buy a TVR and not sell it. Although as richy759 says very odd to see a 500 with Imola wheels ? if its not too far take someone with good mechanical knowlege (prefreably tiv) and have a look. biggest things to look out for are the outriggers. See if you can turn the steering on a lock and have a look down the front corner of the outriggers from above you should be ably to tell if there gone or going. best of luck !

Is it my imagination, or do the back wheels look the same size as the front and a bit small in the arch?

Looks ok from the picture, I would want a good look underneath with a good tourch. It does have 82k miles on it and as it's a 2000 year car you would suspect it's been used as an only car. If the chassis was well protected and looked after then fine, if left to the salt winter after winter maybe not so.
Like the colour, almost reminds me of the old moonstone grey that Sierra Cozy's were painted in in the 1980's!

Mine is a 400 with Estorils. It was specified by the original owner! So could be how it came out of the factory.

Which surprise surprise has a full set of estoril wheels on it.Would make me think twice about the 500. scratchchin Remove the good bits off a "dog" 500 and make a reasonable 400 a bit more presentable. Then "price" the 500 to attract interest!
Maybe its just me,ive never trusted any car dealer.nono

500s were normally shipped with Estorils, but there was always the option to have Imolas, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

What is more important is the condition of the car, and the only way to establish that is to look at it.

The 400 with the Estorils was my car until recently, (px'd it for the Tamora they had) it was sold to them as seen (i.e. with the Estorils on it.)

She looks well, but why would he be selling a 4.0 for more than this and there roughly with in the same year, all be it the 4 has done 20,000 less miles.

Are we suspected chassis issues with this caryikes

I bought a car from them about 4 years ago (not a TVR) and they were very easy to deal with, and had a lot of very tempting sports cars on display. Its possible the owner preferred Imolas so had them from the factory, or I guess there could be any number of other reasons.

At that price I'd be expecting a good service history and nice solid outriggers though.

I guess a quick check of the V5 for the engine capacity would be a starting point. Maybe its a 400 with a 500 lump transplanted ? Not sure how you would check, does the VIN contain details of the engine size ?

I believe the VIN does have the engine capacity, cannot remember which digit it is though. (I'll try to find the link). But the engine number certainly does have the capacity on it, mine has a 40 in the middle for 4 litre.

Its a realistic price for the time of year - afterall its done 80k+ miles which will always affect resale value on a any car let alone a specialised one like this.

Its a lot of miles for a second car - not to say the engine won't be fine though....
