RECENTLY BOUGHT A CHIM 5 LITRE P REG, 34000 ON CLOCK,RUNNING GREAT,VERY TIDY CAR. I PAID 16500 FOR HER WHICH SEEMS A FAIR VALUATION.
SMASHED HER INTO A ROCK FACE UP IN SCOTLAND AND IS NOW DECLARED A WRITE OFF.THE PROBLEM IS A VALUER FOR THE INSURERS HAS PUT A VALUE OF 12000 ON IT WHICH I THINK IS TOTAL BOLLOCKS.
COULD YOU CHAPS GESTIMATE A VALUE TO GIVE ME A MEAN PRICE, AS FOR VIEWING HER THEY HAVEN'T IT WAS ALL DONE BY PHONE AND EMAIL SO IF YOU COULD USE YOUR EXPERIENCE IN THE MARKET THAT WOULD BE ENOUGH.
I SHALL BE USING THE DATA TO SEND TO THE INSURERS BUT NO NAMES WILL BE USED LADS.
ALSO I POSTED A TOPIC ABOUT THE CAR AND IF I COULD BUY HER BACK WOULD BE WILLING TO DO SO FOR SOMEBODY AS A PROJECT BUT UNFORTUNATELY THE INSURERS WON'T LET ME.

Have a look on here, and AutoTrader and print off all the cars the same age or older which are for sale at the price your after or higher and forward them to your insurer, the amount they give you should alow you replace the car 'like for like' minus your excess, so I assume you haven't got a £3k excess

as raceboy said, look on autotrader website. Insurers are expected to put you back in the position you were in before the accident - that is to say pay you what it will cost to buy another. Printing off a few opinions from blokes off a website wont be good evidence of the value. Printing off 5 or 6 examples of cars for sale will help. good luck.

I used to work in a claims department so know exactly how this all works. Their first offer will be very low.

You have to send them supporting evidence of your cars value. Please note, you cannot send them adverts of cars for sale at Dealers as they wont accept these. You have to send them private adverts from the autotrader etc, or on this site of similar cars for sale with the same mileage etc.

I take it you have a full service histiry with the car and I mean full!! If you dont they will take it that the mileage cannot be proved and they probably wont offer you anymore than 13k tops. If you do have a complete history then you should get market value for the car.

As i am in mthe market for one of these and have looked at quite a few I would say that if the car was mint, full history and at those miles, i would be happy to pay 16k for it. so don't take less than that!

Somewhere around 14-15 would be where you would settle ordinarily.

They'll probably relent at this sort of figure...

If you only recently bought it, and I mean within the last few weeks. How about you send them a copy of the invoice showing what you paid for it?
Makes sense to me!
