hi all

looks like i will be taking out my pre cats , i dont really want to remove the manifolds
as that looks like a pain to do and possible seized bolts etc

Alexdaredevilz posted on here that he has taken his pre cats out with the manifolds still
bolted in place ? and that looks a far better and quicker way to do it

my only concern with doing it this way is the chance that some of the pre cat ends up in the engine head
if thats possible ?

so any advice or tips/tools required on carefully removing them from anyone that has done it this way
the idea of a long sds drill bit sounds good to break it down , whats the best device to go round the bend part

cheers keith

Alex does GREAT videos - however, he may not have captured this act of butchery..... wink

However, in all seriousness, I am also interested in this.

Nosh.

I did mine a couple of weeks ago, Y piece off, O2s sensors out, couple of holes all the way through with the SDS, then hammer a small pry bar all the way round to start pealing it away from the manifold, then came lots of hammering with chissels, pry bars, air chissel, etc and lots of swearing! Eventually once you get a large chunk out you can sort of fold it in and pry it out. Then just a case of scraping a few bits away, hoover out the manifolds then fire it up with pillow cases over the manifolds to catch any other bits.
Mine went like a lot of others, first took ages second came out pretty quick.

Thanks guys i just wanted confirmation that it can be done !

i have a couple of questions
when you take off the sensors these have electric cables attached at the end is there an electric
cable connecting block further down so you can disconnect the cables and slide the box spanner
over the cables to go on to the sensor ? just asking i haven't had time to look yet

when re connecting the y piece to the manifolds does it just go back on or do you
have to strap the manifolds to pull them in to meet the y piece ?

when you re join the y piece what type of sealing paste do you use if any ?
is there anything else i should be aware of

cheers keith

I removed the lambda`s by splitting a socket with a grinder then using a jubilee clip to hold it togther.

You may or may not need a strap

You don`t normaly need any paste when they have been cleaned up.
I did have a leaky one so used Ultra copper ..

What happens at MOT time. Will the lamdas give a false weak/rich reading and cause a MOT failure? Or are the lamdas discarded.

You keep the lambdas, no problem with MOT as long as you keep the main cat.

There are connectors further down but they are quite big. You can dismantle the connector to leave the wires. I used a box spanner and the wires fitted through that.
