Hi Gents
Is it possible to inspect the cam on my 450 without major dismantling? and if so is it a cylinder heads off job to replace it?
thanks in anticipation.

To replace the Cam, Not the cylinder heads, but you will have to drain the coolant, remove the plenum, trumpet base, inlet manifold, rocker covers, rockers, valley gasket, fan belt, Distributor, timing cover, exhaust Y piece, crank pulley, timing chain, lifters, pushrods. Its not for the faint hearted but is achievable by the home mechanic.

You can look up at the cam from underneath if you remove the sump. Alternatively you can remove the rocker covers and measure the lifts at each rocker arm to evaluate uneven wear.

If you remove the sump and see the cam it's odds on you will want to change a perfectly servicable one though, they rarely look pretty wink
