My Chim has been sitting for a few months and during that time was getting some electrical work done.

I have started it this evening and I left it running for 5 mins or so. I then noticed that the oil pressure gauge was not off the bottom (probably should have noticed that earlier).

I have checked the oil level and it is fine. I took the oil cap off and got a slight puff of smoke (nothing major).

Just looking for some guidance. I presume that as the oil level is OK that I don't have a problem - It is more likely that the gauge has been disconnected / fused or something electrical?

Cheers

Aidan

Its due in for its MOT tomorrow. I just want to make sure its safe enough to drive. If so, I will get them to check it on the ramp

if it had no oil pressure the hydrolic tappets would rattle so if its quiet it should be ok

Was the oil pressure warning light on? That's driven by a completely different pressure switch that's separate from the sender that drives the gauge, so if that light wasn't lit then it's likely a fault with the sender or gauge rather than a genuine lack of pressure.

What electrical work was you having done? confused personally I would not drive it till your sure you have got some pressure otherwise this could end it tears better to be safe than sorry and all that....... frown RV8 tappets are slow bleeders so I would not gauge the fact they are not noisy as to whether you have oil pressure or not scratchchin

Dash has been replaced....Had an issue with the fan heater not working so was returned....so I am going to have to presume that at that stage the gauge for the oil pressure has been disturbed...

Drove about 200 yards down the road and it sprung into life. I have a feeling that the battery hadn't a good charge in to and needed a kick!

Thanks for all the good advice as always

I doubt it had anything to do with the battery, but glad it self healed in true TVR fashion smile
