I hope someone there can pass on some valuable advise, I have hardly any hair left I've pulled so much out!

I have the old style Dashboard with 3 buttons next to the radio panel. The left button is fog and is fine. The right button is for sidelights and is fine.

The middle button. Hmm........
...sometimes it turns the headlights to dip-beam. Sometimes its straight to full-beam.
When the headlights are on dip, I can use the indicator stalk to select full-beam as usual but I can't use it to turn them back to dip-beam again. I have to use the dash button to turn back, but this turns dip-beam off too so I have to re-press it to get (hopefully) dip-beam back.

This is a headache. So far I have tried removing and cleaning the steering column stalk with compressed air and also various light chemical cleaners. I have also replaced both headlamp plugs and have just completed a headlamp conversion so lamps and bulbs are correctly set-up and working.

Any help is greatly appreciated as I'm all out of ideas now and don't really want to go replacing bits willy-nilly just in case.

If the stalk is faulty (very very common problem) no amount of cleaning will fix this wink just renew it about a tenner thumbup

This is likely to be an earthing problem. I'd guess at the earth to the relay for the main beam. May even be a sticky relay. Have you got a SH bible to find where the earth point is? I'll have a look when I get home tonight if no-one on here has found it before then. biggrin

Hi, thanks to all so far. I have the Bible somewhere at home so I'll get to looking at this later tonight. Hope it's that simple.
