Hi guys,

I am looking for a bracket and idler pulley to replace the power steering pump for a non power steering car, as fitted to the earlier 4 litre engines.

It would fit on the right hand side of the engine in the picture below.

Thanks

Hugh

Hi Hugh,

No need, just get a shorter belt. I was worried for the same reason about contact area against the water pump pulley but a few people on here suggested it wouldn't be a problem so I took the plunge and hey presto, it's not!

You might just need to remove the tensioner and rotate it as I think there are two positions it can sit it. Or hang on, that might be bks. I don;t have a belt length I'm afraid, but if you cut your old one you can find where they overlap and measure from there.

Cheers,
Sam

Hi Sam,

Thanks very much for your post.

I similarly discounted the idea of running without the idler pulley.

Here is a drawing showing what you get.

Do you think you have any water pump belt slippage?

Cheers

Hugh
