I bought a new Personal steering wheel as my leather one was in poor condition.

To get it off, is it just a case of disconnecting the horn and undoing the 6 allen head bolts?

Behind the horn there will be one large nut, loosen this off but leave the nut on a few threads. This will stop you nutting the steering wheel as you pull it off. Once you pull the wheel off the spline then you can take the nut off fully.

what are the 6 allen head bolts for? looks like that should be the only thing holding it on?

I think (A long time ago since I did it) they are just to hold the horn button and it's surround in place.

The counter sunk Allen head bolts hold the steering wheel on, I replaced mine for stainless steel ones a while ago.

Do you have any problems with reflections on sunny days with the stainless bolts?

No, none at all.

As an slight aside, and I dont have them, I am led to believe the leven (aluminium) dash top windscreen vents cause reflections.

Yes, I can even see my black ones reflect slightly so i imagine the aluminium ones must reflect quite a bit!

Where did you get the stainless bolts from? THere are some on Ebay i have seen: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

The screws on ebay are a bit steep, Ive just ordered some m6 x 16mm Csk hex stainless steel screws for work and paid less than they want for 100 screws. Go to your local bolt supplier as stainless is standard in most industries now.

Quick Tip to get those nice shiny steering wheel bolts - a couple of mins polishing each one on some wet and dry and then a quick finish with some Autosol.
