Hi

I was wondering, is there a separate relay for the headlamp flash as mine appears to have stopped working.

It was all fine when I took it apart to get the reflectors re-silvered and having put it back together this evening I can't get them to flash. Main beam and dipped are fine but on the switch/stalk, push/pull etc. but when pulling it towards me.......nothing.

Bcensoredy typical, the MOT is due next week and that would obviously fail.
Maybe I should start at the switch first, but just looking for ideas on where else to look.

Many thanks.....smash

How difficult was the job of removing the reflectors, re silvering them and refitting them?

Noticed my off side one looks rusty....

You can buy the later ones with integrated indicators and then loose the original ones then fit driving lights ..

Thats another little project for you .

Very easy, just a bit fiddly really.

Remove the front grill (mines a pre face lift) to access all the main fixings from the inside.

Cut out the headlight lens (remove the cowl first) then I simply drilled of the heads of the bolts (they were too rusty to even bother trying a screwdriver) and it all sort of fell apart, remember to watch out for the springs which ping off in all directions!

Re plating cost me £35 each (plus VAT and P&P) so £91 in total.
Less than the cost of one new reflector.

Managed to get some new M4 fixings made too. (all will become clear if you attempt the task) at work. Will post a pic soon.

Hi Naybr

The company I used is called Doug Taylor Metal Finishing

http://www.dougtaylor.co.uk/

The quality of the work is fine and they took just over two weeks to turn them round. Just finished refitting all the bits and pieces and sealing the lenses on with Sikaflex. Just need to sort out the alignment and refit the cowls.

For some reason the headlight flash has started working again!!!
No idea why, maybe a sticky relay? but I'm happy with the results.
TVR's eh! you gotta love em.....rolleyes

If you attempt the headlight refurb you may need some of these.....

I made them myself (with the help of a colleague, thanks Dave!)
They were wire cut from a 2mm thick sheet and then tapped M4.
My old ones were well past it due to corrosion between the fixing screws.
The new screws are stainless so hopefully fit and forget!

I'm lucky because I work in engineering (Aeronautical) so I will have a go at most things, partly because I'm tight (according to my wife anyway) and partly to stick two fingers up to the parts suppliers who think they can charge the earth for bits just because it says TVR on the box!

If you need any advice please get in touch.....thumbup

Cheers

You sure they're the actual main headlights and not just the foglights at that price - seems remarkably cheap...
