Come on guys, correct way to adjust valve clearances?
Discussion
I am still stumped, (read noisy tappets!).
On the rock, base circle etc etc, yes I know what it means and I have tried, oh how I've tried but still have noisy tappets!
Rob stated that as the engine warms then the clearances open by 10 thou, confirmed on another site, so why set at 7/10 or whatever thou?
Mine are set at a tight 7 thou on the rock, start off relatively quiet and get noisier as the engine warms, wtf!
Any brilliant ideas or are solid lifter/ adjustable pushrods noisy?
If the above is true I may well go back to hydraulic as I just can't stand it!

I got solid lifters and the engine feels tighter and revvy
I also had grief with mine , but gave to Rob at V8D = prob solved no idea what he done that I didn't all I know is I got no noise now
Peter - are you 110% sure its the tappets making the noise?
Injectors can be noisy and give a tapping/clicking noise

if your after higher revving have you looked at hydraulic high rev lifters? i think real steel sell them
Roads hi rev lifters, probably should have gone down that route!Gonna have another go tomorrow morning at 8am, what am I doing here!!!!!!!!!!!!
i'm here all night, sad but true! as Alex said have you checked the rods dont catch the block on a full rotation of the engine?haircutmike said:

set them at 7 cold .get hot ,measure. then see what the gap has increased ,or decreased by ,then adjust original cold setting by that number . On the rock, base circle etc etc, yes I know what it means and I have tried, oh how I've tried but still have noisy tappets!

eg ,cold 7 thou ,hot 12 thou.. difference 5 thou ,set cold to 2 thou.

Or get two sets of Volvo Amazon rocker arms, turn up some bushes and fit to your existing shafts.

Ask for Rob, he has some breakers & plenty of old B18 lumps for scavenging.
Adjust the Volvo rockers just like any other OHV & ditch the adjustable push rods.

You just need cup end push rods of the correct length and it's job done.

I have set them all to 7 cold.
Unbelievable that they should open up so much.
I will have a go at that.
