Just wondered if anyone else finds resting their elbow on the driver's door arm rest uncomfortable and whether anyone knows of a supplier who supplies fitted pad or some other solution?

I usually stuff my wallet in there - fits well and makes a comfy rest. Might as well use it, there is bugger all in it.

The arm rest is purely aesthetic.
Your arm should be leaning on the top of the door, out the open window in all cases, except during maniac gear shifting.

I am sure that was in the manual....

Errr...What arm rest? mine hasn't got one, just a narrow storage bin big enough for sunnies only.

Precisely. And it's bloody uncomfortable to rest your elbow on.

I can't even get my elbow onto the door pocket (or my Oakleys into the door pocket)...

...but I can rest my arm on the door top whilst still being able to steer and have my left hand free to change gear. biggrin

Definately uncomfortable.

My solution is one of those chamois leather pads sold for cleaning windscreens, doubled over and rammed in the pocket.

It's not particularly attractive but it works.

Well, if anyone is thinking of lining the door pocket with clingfilm, filling it with crazy foam to make a plug to then cover with leather after it's cured, I can save you the bother. It makes a bloody mess and the resulting plug is pretty well impossible to cover neatly. A sharp elbow will then compress the 'pad' over a few drives to the extent that the sharp ridge is just as uncomfortable as it ever was.

That said, it had initial promise and was immediately confortable if not durable. Time to try the mark II if I can source some high enough density closed cell material smile

I had pretty much the same idea, so thanks for the advice. I was planning to make a 'top' for mine out of softwood and cover it in foam and leather. Maybe the 'plug' also needs to be wood? Going to be a pain to carve out the right shape though ...

I've been contacting a few suppliers of gel pads to see if we can get some made up so that they can just sit in the door pocket with a padded gel bit on top but not having much luck at the moment.

My need is perhaps more urgent than most as I have damaged the bone in my elbow and its tender.
