Hello PHers

I've recently bought a 1995 400 Chimaera. I'm really happy with:

- the way it sounds
- the way it goes
- the condition it's in
- and that i fit in it properly (6ft 9) - Amazing!

It went in for a service this week, first time i've had anyone else have a look at it and she came back with a glowing review. Chassis and outriggers in good condition and well protected.

Only slight blot on the copybook was a spot weld required on one of the front wishbones, but as i read through the car's history - this was brought up as an advisory on an MOT 4 years ago with the previous owner and he didn't do anything about it (obviously passed a few MOTs since then).

Now i want to start improving the car - not modifying, just bringing up to a certain standard.

The interior in general has been very well looked after and the best by far from the 4 that i viewed before buying this one. Only thing is, on the passenger side the leather is peeling off the dash, on the forward section with the air vents in. It's not bad, but i want it fixed.

Can anyone recommend a coach builder in south Cheshire/north Shropshire area?

Any ideas what a sensible price would be?

Thanks!

congrats on your purchase..

I bought mine a few months ago and decided to do a few mods and upgrades... didnt really need doing but you just cant help yourself when you see the great mods people have done to their cars on PH's.

D&C trimmers are a great reputable trimmers in the North that many Chim owners use. not to sure how close that is too you.

anyway cograts..

If its just the top dash leather that needs sorting its pretty easy to get it done. The top dash is only held in place by 3 no. bolts. undo these and lift the top section off, send it away or take it yourself and get it recovered. D.C trimmers and ex-works at preston are both reccomended.
Use the search and look for dash removal, plenty of threads on this subject.

Whereabouts in cheshire are you, im based in warrington and any help or advice freely given.

Firstly, it's tight! I only just fit in. With roof on, i can't sit bolt upright but can slouch a bit or push my bum forward on the seat a bit. Also took knob off steering wheel height adjustment to give my knee more clearance and altered pedals to their maximum. They go really far back, much more than i had expected. I'm also considering putting a spacer on my steering wheel to bring it away from my knees by and inch or so.

All in all though, i have driven the car for 2 hour trips a couple of times and i come out of it with no aches and pains - certainly not the same agony as driving my mum's clio for 2 hours!

p.s i've also heard of people removing washers from seats to lower them by half an inch - but i don't think i need to right now...

I'm in a small village called Malpas south of Chester on the A41. It's the forward bit of the 'top dash', with the vents for the windscreen under. Perhaps not so easy to remove as the 'top dash' - anyway, we'll see...

Thanks for your help

There are a couple of trimmers in Sandbach. I've used CC Trim in the past for various bits and bobs and would recommend him, but there is also another one called Trimmtech. HTH

KRJ in Middlewich - great quality, really friendly, but always seem to be up to their eyes in work, so not ideal if it is an urgent job!

For servicing and bodywork, I'd recommend Ian at Sportmotive in Longton. 01782 333008
He has looked after mine for the last 3 years, and offers a great service at good prices.
