Strange Alarm Habits
Discussion
I have a Laserline alarm fitted to my Griff 4.3. All the LEDs activate at the correct time (i.e. when the alarm is armed or disarmed), the immobiliser cuts in after 30secs, and the central locking works off of the remote. Trouble is, I've never heard the alarm, even though I've tried to deliberatly set it off to test it. Until that is, I was trying to fathom out why no air was coming through the vents on the centre if the dash... As I tried to refit the driver's vent, the alarm started to go off. Pulled the vent out again, and it stopped. Sounds like a loose connection to me, and I wondered if it was related to the fact that I can't set the alarm off. Can anyone offer any advice on how to check the alarm is working correctly, or why it should decide to go off when I rearrange the dash!? I'll probably end up taking it to an alarm specialist, but I want to make sure I know what I'm talking about first, in case they try and flog me another alarm system.
Thanks,
Dan.

I've heard that the sensor for the alarm is behind the dashboard (great logic eh - 'let's put it behind a chunk of screening aluminium...'). So maybe as you were fiddling with the vent, you disturbed the wiring. So that's 5 secs to make a good connection; 3 days of grief removing the dashboard...
Hmmm.... Does sound like they could've put it in a better place. What kind of sensor is it? Is it a motion sensor? I have a sensor either side of the dash, which I thought were microwave sensors, but the previous owner said that he didn't have the optional microwave part of the alarm fitted. I've tried waving things inside the car with the alarm armed, but still can't seem to set it off, which concerns me (unless there is a loose connection as you said. Do you know what the sensor looks like, because I can only see a bundle of wires so far.
Thanks,

You don't believe everything you read on this site do you:

For the factory fitted alarm units...
The alarm units are behind the dash. The microwave unit is under the central console. Just nice transparent GRP to go through.

Mine has a Gemini sticker on the window, so I assume that was the factory fit. The Laserline system was fitted when the previous owner had it, I assume it was because the other one packed up, although this one seems to have a mind of it's own. Does anyone have a contact number or website for LaserLine, because I was going to try and get a handbook, to see if I can do an alarm self-test or something?
