Air filters - what flow/volume required
Discussion
Right, bear with me on this one... bigger engine capacity, greater gas flow through the engine (through induction/head/exhaust mods), will clearly require a larger volume of air available than a smaller capacity engine without fancy top end gas flow mods. I'm sure this can be worked out with formulas etc to get to a minimum cubic feet per minute figure (by someone more cleverer than me), but wondering does anyone know if and at what point the standard air filter and pond hose from the filter to the AFM become restrictive? I don't have an AFM anymore, but general thinking (according to previous posts on PH) is that the AFM can become restrictive when bhp figures above 280 are trying to be achieved. Presumably the standard air filter and pond hose (not talking about the AFM to plenum hose) will at some point also start to become restrictive when reaching for higher bhp.. Or maybe they won't... Anyone know? or have an opinion? (used 'search' but doesn't seem to have been specifically addressed previously)

CH told me to find a filter rated for 500bhp NA for mine. Trouble is they don't exist in a form that will fit (really at that level you're talking big airbox)
what does Rob suggest ?
Rob's looking at some mods in this area, which we've been discussing since the last RR session, mainly because she's running rich at higher revs and I don't think he could dial it out. Thought I'd see if anyone had experienced restrictions with the standard set-up, will be seeing Rob in the not too distant future (I'm offshore at the mo as usual Linley) he's also been very tied up of late with someone's engine build what does Rob suggest ?

ETA: 'CH told me to find a filter rated for 500bhp NA for mine' You've been discussing this with Chris Harris
