Hi all,

I took my front grill off today for the first time to have a look at the air filter and I saw this cable dangling near the air filter. It wasn't connected to anything just lay there. I couldn't see where the other end of the cable went to. Based on the connector type, does anyone have any idea of what it may be for?

Thanks,

Tim

I believe that's the alarm siren cable

Oh, I guess it's quite important then! It looks pretty dirty so I guess it's not been plugged in for a while. I've only had my Chim 3 weeks so not heard the alarm go off yet. Remote central locking works ok though.

Maybe I should try setting the alarm off and see if it makes a noise!

I assume the best way to test the alarm is to sit in it with doors closed, push the key fob to lock it, and then try to open the door from the transmission tunnel knob?

I'm not sure it is the alarm.
I have the same cable on my car that I found while I was re doing the headlights. Again is dirty and obviously unused so I wrapped it in heat shrink and stuffed it back in the void. My alarm works fine so I wouldn't worry!

Could it be Aircon? Were all looms created with this in place? Or was the loom lifted from a Range Rover and dropped into our engine bays???

Oh ok, I'm not too concerned now then. I've owned a Range Rover Classic with the same engine for the past 7 years and I don't remember seeing that wire before so don't know if it is a carry over from the loom.

I'll be going back in there soon to take the air cleaner out and give it a proper clean as it was completely covered in dark oily sludge. I don't think it's been cleaned in a long long time. You can see the chunks of sludge in this pic:

I'm going to buy some K&N Air Filter cleaner and bring it back to brand new again!

So when I've got the grill off I'll see if I can work out where that wire disappears off too....

Why not just get a new filter.

Carsy, where would you recommend to buy one?

The K&N cleaner is less than £15 at Halfords

Carsy, thanks for your suggestion. I had a look on the ACT website and the Pipercross replacement is £30+VAT. I had another google and found it for £22+VAT from Racetech Direct. See link:

So I'm going to get myself one of those.

Thanks!
