My 94 chim 500 has the original shocks in and now feels a little tired and will hit the bump stops on rough roads under power.
What should I replace with and should I go for fully adjustable as I do not find the suspension particulary stiff anymore (6 years ownership etc..)
Car still great however and no real probs after some 50000 miles
Thanks

I got Ledas fitted but they do squeak abit. I'm told they are still under warranty and can be replaced but it's a bit annoying.

[second instalment]
I should add that from a performance perspectiv, I'm very happy with them -- they are adjustable and handle fast road, motorway and track use with aplomb.

Had Nitrons fitted by Peninsula, i'm very happy with the results, much better line held round corners without sacrificing ride (to much) they're fullt adjustable and can be rebuilt, a little more expensive than Leda I beleive, don't know how much difference there is between them, anyway very happy, completeley transformed the car.

Had a pair of Boge's fitted to the front 6 months ago. Wish I had done this sooner. The difference compared to the standard units is very noticable.

I did speak to wedge automotive who are selling "Redline"?.
Could you please tell me what sort of money I should be paying per corner and could I fit them myself.

I've got Nitrons. Fitted by Peninsula (as per Kerniki's but mine aren't rose jointed) - V. happy with them.

avo's are better than standard but not as good as the nitron's as the avo's work better on heavier cars due to the way the dampers work, nitrons are not effected in the same way.

I used AVOs on the 520. Not bad but gone to GAZ which are very good but considerably less than Nitrons. Considered them but they have snapped several times on the Tasmins and several of the sprinters have experienced problems with them. After sales service has been good but I decided against them.

some new NITRONS will be available shortly, fully adjustable, make sure when fitting any adjustables you get them tested on a dyno and when fitting them get the car corner weighted to get the best out of them.

The new ones have several separate adjusters (three, at the last count) rather than the single adjuster that most dampers have.

I didn't find too much of a difference in price - about 40quid each IIRC. As you were the only one singing the praises of them compared to lots of favourable comments for Nitron I went for the latter.

Don't worry, it's probably the rubber doughnut bump stops which squeak. Mine settled down after a year or so!

I would hope they're not hitting the bump stops too often! That said, stiffening up the settings results in less squeaking...so I have a choice: squeaks or an uncomfortable ride (on the road).

They have not hit the bump stops yet, (700 LBS springs see to that!) They only squeak as the piston rod moves up and down inside the doughnut.
